The 2022 Jeep Renegade 4xe may retain the current hybrid powertrain

The 2022 Jeep Renegade has been slightly restyled for this year. Unveiled in Brazil in February 2022, the SUV serves as a preview of the global specification, which is expected later in 2022. The facelifted SUV features minor design changes, both exterior and interior, which we expect will be carried over to the 2022 Jeep Renegade 4xe PHEV in Europe. The hybrid powertrain, introduced with the 2019 Jeep Renegade 4xe, is expected to remain unchanged.

Apart from reworked styling to make the SUV look fresh, there are no significant changes to the overall design. A slimmer front grille with shortened vertical slats, a redesigned front bumper and a prominent skid plate with gray and red inserts that emphasize the sporty element are the changes. The old round fog lights appear to have been replaced with smaller rectangular units located in the front bumper.

The 2022 Jeep Renegade features new stylish 17-inch alloy wheels, two-tone black and gray ORVMs, a gray rear skid plate with a red tow hook, and a revamped LED taillight with a new variation of the X-shaped LED lights. The 2022 model retains the prominent square wheel arches, blacked-out body cladding, blacked-out pillars, functional roof rails and a roof-mounted rear spoiler. A matt black hood molding is also available as an option.

The cabin layout of the 2022 Jeep Renegade will most likely remain the same, barring some changes like the addition of USB-C ports on the dashboard, a new steering wheel, a digital instrument cluster, and updated software for the digital infotainment system. Depending on variants, the upholstery may also be available for upgrades. Again, there should be three variants for customers: Longitude, Limited and the off-road oriented Trailhawk.

The Jeep Renegade 4xe is powered by a 1.3-liter turbo petrol engine that produces 130 hp and is paired with an electric motor that produces an additional 60 hp, taking the total system output to 190 hp. The electric motor is powered by an 11.4 kWh, 400 volt, lithium-ion, nickel-manganese-cobalt battery pack that allows up to 26 miles of pure electric range (WLTP). The maximum torque is 199 lb-ft. There is also a 190 hp version of this engine that takes the total output to 240 hp.

Drivers can switch between hybrid, electric and E-save driving modes. E-save uses the internal combustion engine only to save the charge in the battery. In addition, the SUV also comes with off-road modes like snow, sand, mud, sport and auto. The modes change the electric motor and engine response and adjust the steering, throttle and transmission characteristics to suit the specific terrain. Expect the 2022 Jeep Renegade 4xe to retain these specs.

Price & release date

Already unveiled in Brazil, the facelifted Renegade should be unveiled globally later this year with largely similar looks. The current Jeep Renegade 4xe PHEV starts at £32,600 ($42,436) in the UK (OTR). The updated model is expected to receive a minor price increase. This year, Jeep also introduced a new Renegade eHybrid model for Europe, complete with a mild hybrid engine.

While the Jeep Renegade is available in the US, it comes with a gas-only powertrain. The PHEV has been sold in Europe for over two years, but not in America. In the US, the Jeep 4xe powertrain is reserved for the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee. Finally, Jeep has confirmed that a pure-electric version or equivalent of the Jeep Renegade will be launched in 2025, as it aims to have an electric car in every segment in which it operates.
