New Cherokee to continue the 81-year Jeep legend

The all-new Jeep Grand Cherokee L has been redesigned with a focus on optimizing comfort and handling, while reducing weight, improving fuel economy and delivering improved 4×4 capability along with unrivaled first-class on-road driving dynamics.

Legendary off-road capability begins with three 4×4 systems – Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II and Quadra-Drive II with rear electronic limited slip differential (eLSD). All three systems are equipped with an active transfer case to improve grip by shifting the torque to work with the wheel with the most grip. Grand Cherokee L’s class-leading Selec-Terrain traction management system allows customers to select on- and off-road settings for optimal 4×4 performance with five available terrain modes (auto, sport, rock, snow, mud/sand) to provide optimized calibrations for any given driving scenario.

In addition to the three 4×4 systems, the Grand Cherokee L offers for the first time in the model’s history a class-exclusive Quadra-Lift air suspension, with electronic adaptive damping. Quadra-Lift air suspension provides best-in-class ground clearance of 277 mm, while automatically adjusting ride height based on road conditions and speed to reduce drag and improve fuel economy.

Award-winning powertrains

The all-new Jeep Grand Cherokee L offers buyers a fuel-efficient and refined engine with proven performance for all driving situations.

Standard is a 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 engine in aluminium, rated at 210kW and 344Nm of torque. Renowned for its power and refinement, the 60-degree angle between the Pentastar V-6’s cylinder banks makes it run smoothly, enhanced by accessories that attach directly to the engine block. Fuel-saving Engine Start-Stop (ESS) technology is also standard on the Pentastar V6.

Design: Unrivaled refinement, uncompromising craftsmanship

Exterior design

The proportions of the all-new Grand Cherokee L were inspired by the original Wagoneer, Jeep’s first full-size luxury SUV. For the first time, premium, full-line LED lighting is standard on all Jeep Grand Cherokee trim levels.

Interior design

“Absolutely breathtaking interior,” noted Ward’s Top 10 judge Drew Winter. “A stunning mix of rich colors and lavish materials.” The editors of Wards, a global leader in vehicle intelligence, selected the winners after evaluating 33 vehicles, which were scored on ergonomics, comfort, fit and finish, material quality and aesthetics.

The Grand Cherokee L offers the most available technology features in its class. With the addition of new front and rear interactive displays, the Grand Cherokee L now has more than 30 inches of total available digital screen space.

The most advanced, high-tech safety and security features in its class

The all-new Jeep Grand Cherokee L offers more than 110 safety and security features, including innovative applications of technologies that refine the connection between driver, vehicle and the road.

These features improve the driver’s field of vision, help make instrumentation easier to see, and enable driver assistance features that enable collision avoidance.

Among the safety features available on the Grand Cherokee L Series are:

• Collision warning at full speed with active braking and detection of pedestrians/cyclists
• Parallel and Perpendicular Park Assist with 360 degree surround camera system with built-in trays on both front and rear camera lenses.
• Night vision camera with pedestrian and animal detection (*peak reserve)
• Adaptive cruise control with stop and go.

Advanced technology: Segment-leading offers

Jeep Grand Cherokee L features the latest, most advanced Uconnect system ever, with a 10.1-inch screen and intuitive user experience. The all-new Uconnect 5 delivers operating speeds that are five times faster than the previous generation. Using an Android operating system and over-the-air updates, Uconnect 5 provides flexibility that allows the system to continuously evolve to offer new content, features and services.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee L is also the first production Jeep to offer a fully digital rearview mirror. The digital rearview mirror displays real-time video from a rear-facing camera, providing a view unobstructed by the D-pillars or the rear seat. It also goes back to a traditional reflective mirror.

Peace of mind

Well over the thrill of the new Grand Cherokee L, the more rationally minded will take solace in the standard five-year/120,000km warranty and roadside assistance. Service intervals are every 12 months or 12,000km but five year/100,000km maintenance plan.

Price starts at R1 299 900.
