Back in August, the Jeep® brand introduced the limited edition Tuscadero (PHP) exterior paint. Tuscadero exterior color was the most popular special edition color for the 2021 model year. Jeep then reintroduced the impact color for a short time for the 2022 models, before orders closed in December.
With that said, Jeep Mexico has now announced that it will be bringing a new special edition with the bold pink color to the Mexican market. Jeep will ship 100 units of what the American adventure brand calls the “2022 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Tuscadero Sky Freedom Edition.” Now, that’s a mouthful!
Based on the 2022 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon, the Rubicon Tuscadero Sky Freedom Edition offers unmatched off-road capability with 4×4 Command-Trac® and Rock-Trac® 4×4 systems, the latest generation of Dana axles, electronic locking differentials Tru -Lock front and rear , all-terrain tires, steel Rock Rails bumpers and steel skid plates, and a unique hood with functional Power Dome vents.
It retains the legendary seven-slot grill with a more modern look. The outer grilles cross the headlights and are a tribute to the Jeep CJ. LED headlights and fog lights provide crisp white light and add to the Wrangler’s distinctive appearance. It has familiar daytime running lights that form a halo around the outer perimeter of the headlights, and front indicators located at the front of the fenders.
The Sky Freedom part of the name comes from the standard Sky One-Touch® Power Top. It allows passengers to open or close the Wrangler’s roof with the push of a button. The power top can be used at speeds up to 60 mph (37 kmph).
The interior of the Rubicon Tuscadero Sky Freedom Edition retains its exclusive style, versatility and comfort. The Jeep-inspired center console has a clean, sculpted design that complements that of the dashboard. A hand-wrapped instrument panel showcases soft surfaces with bold stitching. Functional elements such as air conditioning and volume controls, USB ports and the Stop-Start System (ESS) button have been designed for quick recognition and easy access from the driver or front passenger position. The vents are outlined by a platinum chrome frame that gives it a premium yet rugged look.
Jeep functionality and versatility are enhanced on the center console with silver metallic accents. The center console houses the gear selector, gearbox and parking brake. The gear lever, grips and infotainment screen bezel use real screws, underscoring the use of genuine construction methods.
The instrument panel has a 7-inch thin film transistor (TFT) screen. The 7-inch TFT screen allows the driver to configure the information displayed in more than 100 different ways, including music, tire pressure or a digital speed indicator. Buttons integrated into the steering wheel allow you to control the sound system, voice and speed functions without taking your hands off the steering wheel at any time.
The Rubicon Tuscadero Sky Freedom Edition also includes the familiar 8.4-inch Uconnect 4C infotainment system with navigation. Two USB ports in the front and two more within reach of the rear passengers connect to the “media” center. Several additional 12-volt power outlets located throughout the Wrangler’s interior.
The Rubicon Tuscadero Sky Freedom Edition features exclusive dark brown bucket seats with 6-way manual driver seat adjustment, 2-way manual lumbar adjustment and a 60/40 split folding rear seat.
Under the hood of the Rubicon Tuscadero Sky Freedom Edition is a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine that delivers 285 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque with efficient mild-hybrid (mHEV) eTorque technology mated to a new 8-speed automatic transmission.
Features of the mHEV eTorque system include automatic stop/start, electronically assisted steering, extended injection shutdown, gear management, intelligent battery charging and regenerative braking. Both the engine and the fuel flow can be shut off during stops, downhills or deceleration phases.
Occupant safety and protection have been paramount in the development of the new Jeep Wrangler, which is reflected in the more than 75 active and passive safety components available. These include blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic control, ParkView backup camera with dynamic grids, electronic stability control (ESC) with electronic roll damping, and four front-mounted airbags.
The 100-unit special edition Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Tuscadero Sky Freedom will be priced at $1,292,900 pesos (or approximately $60,728 USD).
