Here’s what we know about the 2023 Jeep Compass

In a world of small SUVs, the Jeep Compass stands out for its versatility, sweet design, technology and off-road capability that lives up to Jeep marque’s ideal and puts its competitors to shame. To compete with rivals in the competitive compact SUV class, Jeep’s engineers decided to concentrate their efforts under the hood, giving the Compass a more powerful powertrain.

The result is a turbocharged engine that puts out more power and torque than the GMC Terrain and Chevy Equinox. Aside from this, the Jeep Compass gets some significant updates for the 2023 model year, which include a new turbocharged engine, standard all-wheel drive, and quite a few standard goodies.

With a starting price of $29,995, the 2023 Jeep Compass goes up against the Ford Bronco Sport and Subaru Crosstrek.

Read on to learn about all the cool features found on the 2023 Jeep Compass, and why you should buy it.

The 2023 Jeep Compass will be buzzier than ever, thanks to the new 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that is set to improve this SUV’s on- and off-road performance, compared to the outgoing engine. The new engine gives the Compass a much-needed performance boost, with 200 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque, representing an increase of 23 horsepower and 49 lb.ft over the old 2.4-liter naturally aspirated Inline-4. We think the extra power and torque provided by the turbo engine will give this little SUV more oomph.

Apart from the power bump, we expect it to have better fuel efficiency as well, although the brand is yet to provide fuel economy figures. The engine sends power to all wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive. And since AWD is now standard, every 2023 Compass will be a capable off-road vehicle.

The Compass’ superior off-road performance is largely due to the Jeep Active Drive 4X4 system, which is also standard on all models. With this fully automatic system, the most critical wheels get the most torque. We also love Jeep’s Selec Terrain System, which allows you to optimize the AWD system for any terrain.

2023 Jeep Compass: Trailhawk Trim offers serious off-road capabilities

There’s more to the Compass Trailhawk than just a cosmetic upgrade. Thanks to a crawl ratio of 20:1 and new off-road tires, the Trailhawk has the best off-road characteristics in the range. On top of that, the Compass Trailhawk comes with an extra inch of ground clearance, allowing you to navigate tougher terrain without scraping your vehicle against the ground.

And speaking of scraping. The trim also gets tough skid plates to protect all the important elements like the fuel tank, differentials and transfer case. So you have that extra layer of protection.

While the new Selec-Terrain system comes with Snow and Sand/Mud modes, the Trailhawk’s System adds a Rock mode for more extreme off-road driving.

The recognizable design of the venerable Jeep brand is one of the things that makes the Jeep Compass so desirable. As one of the larger subcompact SUVs, the Jeep Compass sits between the Renegade and Cherokee in the Jeep lineup.

The well-equipped Limited trim gets the distinctive look of the (RED) Edition and High Altitude models, along with new 17-inch wheels and automatic high-beam headlights. The rugged Trailhawk fairing retains the traditional 7-slot grill, giving it a bold, intimidating appeal that showcases its off-road prowess.

After a 2022 interior update for the 2022 model year, the interior of the Jeep Compass still feels new. For an SUV of this size, the Compass offers plenty of room in both rows of seats and decent rear legroom. The Compass’s cargo space is a bit tight, but it’s bigger than the Subaru Crosstrek’s.

Apart from small touch-ups, the cabin design is not that different from the previous model. The new Compass isn’t shy about technology, packing a standard 10.1-inch infotainment screen that carries the advanced Uconnect 5. For a few extra bucks, you can unlock the optional 10.3-inch digital gauge cluster. To complement the vehicle’s standard array of active and passive driver aids, each trim also gets new safety features, such as a rear seat reminder, a security alarm and drowsy driver detection.
