Everything you need to know about the 2022 GMC Acadia

GMC known for its luxury trucks and brawn, is the trucking department for General Motors. But at the same time, they have three SUVs in their portfolio that are trying to strike a chord between its raw trucking attraction and the plush crossover trend that is popping up right now. 2022 GMC Acadia happens to be sitting in the middle of their SUV suite and gives an odd picture.

Although it looks robust, it can at best be classified as a souped-up minivan due to its sluggish performance figures. GMC has not added any new pieces to the 2022 Acadia but has removed and adjusted the standard feature list. Despite various improvements over the years since the current generation’s introduction in 2017; Acadia is still struggling to keep up with its peers.

With the award-winning Kia Telluride, its twin Hyundai Palisade, and the famous Jeep Grand Cherokee putting a much better package on the table, GMC is certainly in time for a portfolio review. But for now, 2022 Acadia is trying to be better than its predecessor.

2022 GMC Acadia gets narrower when it comes to trim and engine options, but adds new exteriors and more safety features.

2022 GMC Acadia Updates

2022 GMC Acadia gets the most subtle updates. The most important of these adjustments include the decommissioning of the SL-trim base for 2021 together with the base 2.5-liter inline-4 engine. GMC has added new 18 and 20-inch wheel designs along with a new exterior paint by Light Stone Metallic to freshen things up on the outside. In terms of technology, the 2022 Acadia now comes with standard GMC Pro Safety Plus and Traction Select; which were previously optional.

2022 GMC Acadia comes in four trims, starting with an MSRP of $ 34,800

GMC has reduced its trim table by getting rid of the base SL trim. For 2022, Acadia will come in four trims – SLE, SLT, AT4 and Denali. SLE and SLT are generic models that contribute to the lower spectrum. But AT4 stands out with its clear terrain and Denali takes the tag lux-appeal. The 2022 GMC Acadia SLE starts with an MSRP of $ 34,800 and tops at $ 46,600 for the Denali trim. The highlight here is the AT4, which showcases its off-road attraction with exclusive 17-inch wheels wrapped in off-road tires and an Active Torque Control AWD system. 2022 Acadia is now available in two engine options, 2.5L axles

The base engine of the 2022 GMC Acadia is a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 that provides 228 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. This engine comes standard with SLE and SLT trims. For the higher AT4 and Denali trims, you get a more powerful 3.6-liter V6 engine that produces 310 hp and 271 lb-ft of torque. Both engine types come standard with FWD configuration and AWD is optional (except AT4 which comes with the standard Active Torque Control AWD system).

A 9-speed automatic transmission takes care of the power transmission to the wheels. The SLT trim also gets V6 as an option. You get an adaptive suspension as standard on the Denali AWD which is also optional on SLT trim with AWD. 2022 GMC Acadia can pull a maximum of 4,000 pounds and manages to give back an acceptable combined 25 MPG with 2.0-liter FWD and 21 MPG with 3.6-liter V6 AWD.

The new Acadia’s interior is plush but boring in space and technology

The fit and finish of the 2022 Acadia interior is okay but it is seriously outdated and dull. But on the flip side, intuition is the focus here as GMC has made the layout quite comfortable to use. It’s refreshing to see many clickable buttons at a time when touchscreens control! The Denali trim adds a lot of lux appeal with a wealth of extra cozy features. With all 3 rows up, you get 12.8 cu ft of cargo space that can be dialed up to an impressive 79 cu ft by folding up to the 2nd row.

On the technology front, that job gets done well. But there are no “wow” factors here; You get an 8-inch diagonal touch screen infotainment system as standard on all but SLE which is an available feature. You get a built-in Wi-Fi hotspot with available 4G LTE data and built-in Amazon Alexa features. The AT4 trim gets 5 standard USB ports and the Denali trim gets wireless charging as well, along with the bells and whistles. Related: 10 Coolest Features of the 2021 GMC Yukon

2022 GMC Acadia Exterior is stylish and strong

Not many adjustments have been made to the 2022 GMC Acadia exterior. The lean form factor remains which makes this crossover much more than the actual deal. You are offered two new 18 and 20-inch wheel designers and GMC has also added a new exterior screen – Light Stone Metallic. Both of these pieces are optional features.

AT4 stands out in particular with its exterior design pieces that include thick off-road tires and darkened elements. Denali also stands out with plush chrome inserts and rims that you do not want to wear! There is also an exclusive Acadia Elevation Edition that is limited to SLE and SLT trim. This sprays on a Gansta look with black elements all around that also offers available black GMC emblems.

GMC adds new standard safety features to the 2022 Acadia

GMC has finally put more emphasis on safety for 2022. The new Acadia gets a standard GMC Pro Safety Plus package that includes features such as automatic emergency braking, front brake for pedestrians and lane change warning among many more. It’s good to see GMC take the right step this time, but the competition is far too far ahead, and Acadia needs a miracle to quickly gain ground.
