Eleven people killed in jeep accident in Nepal

At least 11 people were killed on Monday when a jeep they were traveling in met with an accident in Nepal’s Jajarkot district, police said.

Among the dead were seven from ward No. 5 of Chhedagad municipality in Jajarkot district, located about 650 km west of Kathmandu, according to the Himalayan Times newspaper.

As many as 12 people were on board the ill-fated Bolero jeep which was heading to Lewa in Chhedagard municipality, according to the report.

A team of police officials was sent to the accident site, said Chief District Officer of Jajarkot district Anjan Kumar Neupane.

The exact reason behind the accident is not yet known.

An investigation into the matter is currently underway, the police say.

Road accidents are very common in Nepal.

The Himalayan nation is mostly covered in mountains and most of the roads are narrow.
