Bought a Jeep Meridian after selling my 2020 Creta: Initial impressions

Coming from a Creta, I am not overwhelmed by its size, which was my initial fear.

BHPian zepp1108 recently shared this with fellow enthusiasts.

Guys, yesterday I became the proud owner of the Jeep Meridian. The variant is 4*2 Limited Optional Automatic transmission in white color. I sold my dear old (quite young) Hyundai Creta to the dealer. It was a pain to keep the old number which they will handle when they apply for the registration of my new vehicle. So selling to a private person would have been a bit awkward.

First of all I would like to thank Landmark Gurgaon for a smooth experience. They are extremely professional. They gave me enough time and helped me with all the doubts. One reason I chose Meridian is that they trusted me with the vehicle. The dealer carries enough stock, mostly because they are the only dealers in NCR. They sell a lot of Compasses and Meridians these days and the dealership is always full of vehicles and visitors but the people there are very prompt with any questions I have. I took two test drives to make sure if I really want to go with Meridian. Everything from a test drive and finance and delivery was completed in less than a week.

The second thanks goes to the employees of SBI, DLF Qutub Plaza Branch in Gurgaon. They were so fast that they paid off my loan in 2 days. I dealt with them directly. They really helped me finish the process very quickly. Minimal paperwork and I had to visit the branch only once for the signatures.

Delivery date:

It all went very quickly. The dealer had to deliver some other cars so the delivery was back to back. We were informed about the delivery time so we didn’t have to wait long. Cake cutting and unveiling and handing over of keys took about 30 minutes. I was given a very thorough explanation about the features and all the little details about the car. Sad though but added a very professional touch to the overall experience. There were some other doubts which I had to clear over phone. After delivery we went to a nearby temple for did pooja.

Accessories I went with:

  • Side stepper – Make it easy for children and shorter people to get in and out. In one of the YouTube videos on the Meridian, someone mentioned that it can act as a side bumper that prevents vehicles from getting too close to your car. This is a must have accessory.
  • Magnetic window screens – The rear doors on the Creta have these as standard, the Meridian lacks them. They don’t sell it in pairs so you can only have shades for all four windows.
  • Chrome covers for the handles – The door handles look very dull in daylight. These chrome covers add a lot to the look.
  • Blue LED light under the dashboard – There is no ambient light as such. Blue is the only color offered.
  • White light under the body – Makes it easy to get out and is useful at night.

Few of these accessories are not required though, I just wanted my car to look colorful.

First impressions of the car:

After driving it for some time in traffic, I can definitely say that it does not feel cumbersome to drive this long and heavy vehicle. It glides super comfortably through heavy/normal traffic. Coming from the Creta, I’m not overwhelmed by its size, which was my initial fear. The turning radius must be very small, as it is very easy to make a U-turn.

Besides the build and ride quality, things that really stand out in the Meridian –

  1. The quality and resolution of the infotainment system is too good.
  2. The sound quality of the speakers is superb – feels as good as in the Creta/Tucson (Bose Speakers).
  3. The quality of the seat material and the space and comfort the seats offer.

I find it really strange to see people comparing Jeep Meridian with Fortuner, Gloster etc. Meridian should never be compared with these huge SUVs. Someone who wants to invest in large SUVs but not as big as these can look for the Meridian. Meridian has size, construction, looks and features. There is nothing I can complain about. This car should sell in decent numbers. Oh yeah, the retailer is also offering a big discount. Prices will increase in 2023 and there is no discount.

I will share more pictures and impressions shortly.
