The all-new 2022 Hyundai Tucson meets the updated 2022 Jeep Compass. This is how they compare.
Hyundai Tucson 2022
2022 Hyundai Tucson Starting price: $ 24,950 | Your price or See lists near you
Above average: Long factory warranty; three years free scheduled maintenance; hybrid and plug-in hybrid models.
Below average: No volume or adjustment knobs for the sound system; styling may not be for everyone; awkward push button shift.
Consensus: Under its wild plate, the Hyundai Tucson 2022 has a spacious cabin and offers lots of advanced features. The hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants contribute to Tucson’s appeal.
2022 Jeep Compass
2022 Jeep Compass Starting price: $ 24,995 | Your price or See lists near you
Above average: Offroad capacity; spacious rear seat; active safety features as standard on all trims.
Below average: Only one engine selection; just average fuel economy.
Consensus: The Jeep Compass looks like a Jeep, and this crossover also has Jeep-like capability when the sidewalk runs out. However, the only engine offer leaves us wanting.
Tucson vs. Compass: Urban Sophisticate Meets Rugged Outdoorsman
Hyundai Tucson is newly designed for 2022 and is larger, has a striking new style and has new technology. The Tucson is powered by a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder with 187 horsepower coupled to an 8-speed automatic transmission and is available with front- or four-wheel drive.
New in the range is the Tucson Hybrid with 226 horsepower and standard AWD. There is also a Tucson Plug-In Hybrid. The EPA combined fuel economy for the base engine is 29 mpg (FWD) and 26 mpg (AWD), with the hybrid of 37 to 38 mpg. PHEV, meanwhile, has an estimated 261 horsepower and offers 32 miles of electric range.
Wild new style adorns a body that is larger than before and rides on a longer wheelbase. The passenger space is generous and the cargo space has also increased. The interior has lots of available technology. An 8-inch touch screen is standard, while a 10.25-inch device with navigation is in the upper trim, although the lack of volume and adjustment knobs may be disturbing. A digital instrument cluster is also available.
Tucson is available in SE, SEL, SEL Convenience, N Line, SEL Premium and Limited trim levels. The hybrid parts are Blue, SEL Convenience and Limited. The top upholstery has a robust list of technical features such as adaptive cruise control, wireless charging, heated front and rear seats, heated steering wheel, surround-view monitor, Hyundai’s blind-angle view, Remote Park Assist and Hyundai Digital Key.
2022 Jeep Compass goes where most small crossovers are afraid to step on. This is especially true of the Trailhawk version, which includes AWD with low gear, downhill control, raised suspension and ski plates. Other Compass parts come standard with front-wheel drive and offer AWD as an option.
All Compass models are powered by a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine with either a 6-speed automatic (FWD) or a 9-speed (AWD). Its 177 horsepower is enough but a little more, and the fuel economy is on average 25 mpg with both powertrains. Riding on the road can be stiff, even if the handling is not bad.
Inside, a new center console has more storage space, and the finish gets a necessary upgrade. The passenger compartment is good as well as the luggage compartment with 27 cubic feet behind the rear seats and almost 60 cubic feet with folded backrests. An 8.4-inch touchscreen is now standard and includes Apple CarPlay / Android Auto wireless; a 10.1-inch screen is included in the top three trims.
The list of common active driver aids now includes collision warning with pedestrian detection and automatic emergency braking, lane keeping aid, blind spot and rear cross traffic warning. Adaptive cruise control, automatic parking and surround camera come with Latitude. Additional features available include a digital instrument cluster, automatic parking and wireless charging.
Starting prices; standard engine power; infotainmentsystem.
