2022 GMC Yukon offers engine options, comfort

If it’s clean, fun to drive performance, the new 6.2-liter V8 AT4 engine will be the best choice. And then there is the proven V8 engine that has 355 horsepower but only 383 pounds of torque.

As such, my tester was enjoyable. And you can not go wrong with a Duramax, to be honest. It still sounds like a diesel but because it is smaller it is a little less disgusting. A 10-speed automatic transmission never lets the turbo get in front of it and is one of the better gearboxes available today. Two-wheel drive is available, but my tester came with four-wheel drive.

The 120.9-inch wheelbase plus the size and girth of this giant gives up a slight body roll at higher speeds and as such, the Yukon is less than agile, but it’s also doubtful that anyone will buy this vehicle for rally racing.

The powerful look begins with its chiseled exterior. The Yukon does not try to look small; it embraces its size with a bold, chain-like grille and chrome details. The Yukon loses some of its bold style and personality on the back, with a rather dull back. This is really the only flaw in the external aesthetics is that as nice as it is on the front and even on the profile, the look begins to fall off towards the back.

The point of SUVs like the Yukon is to offer comfort for a large family. The Yukon is supposed to be a high-end vehicle (as opposed to the more toned down Chevy Tahoe). And the Yukon, especially with the Denali trim, accomplishes that. The interior is lavish, comfortable and spacious.

My tester was the standard cab, unlike the XL variant which is gigantic. With the “XL” room, the Yukon did not disappoint in legroom, ceiling height and shoulder space, not even in the third row. Behind the third row are 25.5 cubic feet of cargo space with the area expanding to 72.6 cubic feet with the third row of folding flat and an impressive 122.9 cubic feet with all rear seats folded down.

General Motors infotainment systems are ideal. It has all the technology you could want, but is also intuitive with a nice combination of touch functions, plus buttons and knobs. A 10.2-inch seems small for such a large vehicle, but flows well in the middle.

My tester was equipped with infotainment screens that are mounted on the back seat as part of the Denali Ultimate Package. This would be a perfect set for families with children who may be dependent on their electronic devices. The Yukon is an ideal family car as such, even without the expensive Ultimate Package.

With plenty of leg and shoulder space and comfortable seats, there is room to stretch out for car journeys. Throw a recreational vehicle on the towbar, thanks to the maximum tow package and this is a war vehicle for weekends ready for trips to the lakes.

With the aforementioned 3.0-liter Duramax diesel, the Yukon has impressive fuel economy. It is rated at 20 mpg / city and 26 mpg / highway. During a week of mostly suburban driving, I had an average of more than 22 mpg. In a vehicle that weighs almost 6,000 pounds, it’s fine.

The Yukon is one step up from the Chevy Tahoe. As such, the base price for my tester was $ 72,500, which sounds expensive enough. Add the Denali Ultimate Package with rear seat entertainment plus a host of features such as sunroof, auxiliary steps, max trailer and more and the final price of my tester skyrocketed to $ 83,395.

This is where all circular arguments usually end with a rejection, yes can you afford it anyway? The answer is usually over and the circular argument is over. One thing that is undeniable is the impressive character of this great SUV.
